Rider / Trainer
From an early age, Juulia wanted to become an astronaut or a showjumper. Growing up in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, with parents who had no connection to horse riding, the latter wish was not so obvious. With delivering newspapers and working hard after school, taking care of stable duties and riding horses for owners, Juulia bought her first own horse. With the black Trakehner “Romeo” Juulia followed her passion, left her home country at the age of 19 and told her parents that she probably wouldn’t come back. In Holland, Juulia started to train young horses at Van Triest Horses.
Soon the Dutch showjumping scene would notice Juulia’s horsemanship and dedication. With the six years old small chestnut mare Hillary (f.Bergerac) she won in one season all 1.30 classes, including all the qualifiers and the final of the Dutch Championships. As all young horses, also Hillary was sold and Jyläs had to start all over again. It took quite a while before she got a chance to proof herself as an international showjumper.
Juulia took her chance with a homebred and self-produced mare Courage T Z and with the, at the time unknown, stallion Finishing Touch Wareslage. One of the first Juulia‘s World Cup Shows in Mechelen (2016) the 8 year old Courage jumped double clear in the CSI5* Grand Prix and Finishing Touch jumped double clear in the 1.60m World Cup.
Juulia has been on the highest level of sports, she was placed in several World Cups, jumped two European Championships in Gothenburg (2017) and in Rotterdam (2019) with Finishing Touch Wareslage. In 2018 Juulia represented Finland at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, USA. She won the CSI4* Grand Prix of Aalborg (2019) with Finishing Touch and was 2nd in the CSI5* Grand Prix of Oslo (2017) with Courage. Juulia has also competed in several FEI Nation Cups, the Longines Global Championships Tour, FEI World Cups and the World Championships of young horses with a great success. She is one of the few who can say that they trained several young horses from a zero up to Grand Prix level.
